The historic cistern was discovered during renovations and creatively converted into extra guest living space.

The Speakeasy Suite has been preserved with traditional craftsmanship, high ceilings, and original hardwood floors and millwork.

The Speakeasy Suite is conveniently located adjacent to the main piazza, where you can enjoy a cup of morning coffee or evening glass of wine. Please note, there is no elevator access in the property and the stairs to access the third floor are steeper than normal and may be prohibitive for some guests.

There are two sister king suites on the top floor of The Ashley. They are both roomy and have both king-sized beds and queen sleeper sofas to accommodate larger parties or families. The newly renovated bathroom features massive double walk-in showers and beautiful exposed brick from the three-story chimneys. The rooms have all of the inn’s original charm and character with chic, modern upgrades and amenities that provide both function and elegance.

Since they’re far removed from the bustle of the city streets, each room provides a quiet haven and a great way to enjoy the quaintness that visitors and residents alike love about Charleston.

The Ashley has a detached carriage house that has been completely renovated to provide a great option for a group or entire family. The carriage house has a dining space, a full kitchen complete with a microwave and stove, a living area with a secretary’s desk, and two bedrooms on the upper level with individual ensuite bathrooms.

Although renovated and upgraded to provide the modern conveniences of daily life, the woodwork, hardwood floors, and other historic antebellum features have been perfectly preserved and restored to offer guests all the chic and modern amenities you’d expect in your own home with the beauty and history of architecture that is nearly 200 years old. There is enough living space to make yourself at home, while also offering privacy to more than one group guests in your party need privacy.

It has spectacular and unique roof lines and the quality craftsmanship of the mid-1800s, while providing modern conveniences and upgrades for the best of both worlds.

Just outside the carriage house is a comfy sitting area where you can have your morning coffee or enjoy a glass of wine on a warm spring or chilly fall day while watching the sun rise or set. Although it’s nestled in downtown Charleston, the carriage house is comfortable and quiet. It is an excellent way to be in the action of the city while enjoying a feeling of seclusion and serenity.
