Located across the street from the Medical University of South Carolina’s historic St. Luke’s Chapel, The Ashley is nestled in the heart of Radcliffeborough. The Ashley is an easy walking distance to Upper King Street that features restaurants and shops galore. For families with young daughters, the prestigious Ashley Hall school is one block away.
Originally constructed in 1852 as a grand antebellum Greek Revival side hall house by William Lebby, foundry owner, mill manager, and machinist, The Ashley has seen a handful of owners and renovations over its past nearly 200 years. Fortunately, the original charm, elegance, and tradition have been well preserved throughout the ages.
After enjoying most of its life as a beloved private residence to a well-to-do prominent Charleston family, The Ashley was converted into three separate apartments, the Carriage House, an apartment on the first floor of the main house, and a third dwelling that covered the second and third floor of the main home. In 1992 The Ashley was completely restored both inside and out. Much attention and effort were invested to preserve and restore the original plaster medallions, rare heart pine floors, ornate crown molding and casements, and charming pocket doors dividing the parlor and dining rooms. Since the original restoration in 1992, it has been a Charleston gem, serving as a boutique hotel
In 2022, Trouvaille Collection embarked upon a journey to renovate, revamp, and restore The Ashley into the premier boutique hotel it once was. Trouvaille’s mandate was clear, make The Ashley a stunning example of Charlestonian grace by adding modern conveniences while preserving the historic architectural design, built-ins, and accents that make this property an architectural “lucky find.” Trouvaille Collection is pleased to share a combination of luxury and history, a place where old-world elegance meets contemporary excellence.
